RIOT ACT - THE G20 IN TORONTO

These photos were taken when the 2010 G20 summit visited Toronto, resulting in the largest mass arrest in Canadian history. It was an extraordinary scene: the shutting down of ordinary life in the downtown core for an entire weekend; the complete failure of democracy; the breach of basic civil rights. Many of those arrested were bystanders who wanted nothing to do with the protests, detained when police ‘kettled’ the intersection of Queen and Spadina, apprehending everyone trapped inside. Many were accredited journalists.
